The Makarska Riviera is well-positioned for island and coastal day trips. Daily catamarans run to Brač and to Hvar; both are easily seen in a day. Split is an hour up the coast and worth at least an afternoon for Diocletian's Palace. The fishing village of Drvenik a little south is the ferry port for the island of Korčula and the Pelješac peninsula.
For a different kind of day out, the drive up Biokovo to the Skywalk and back is itself a half-day.
