Kačić Square

Baroque main square with cafés and the parish church

Kačić Square (Kačićev trg) is the social heart of Makarska, named after the 18th-century Franciscan poet Andrija Kačić Miošić, whose statue stands at its centre. The church of St Mark anchors the eastern side, baroque townhouses fill the others, and the surrounding cafés put out tables that essentially fill the open space in summer.

This is where to start an evening: an ice cream at the square, then onto the Riva for the slow waterfront walk that is the local custom.
