Vepric Shrine is a peaceful Marian sanctuary just outside Makarska, set in a wooded hollow below the Biokovo slopes. Its cave chapel and outdoor stations are modelled in spirit on Lourdes, but the Dalmatian limestone and pines make the setting very local.
Even if you are not travelling as a pilgrim, it is worth a short visit for the shade and calm. It offers a gentle contrast to Makarska's beach crowds, especially in the hot middle of the day.
