Pag Town has several beaches within walking distance of the old town, occupying the coves and inlets of the channel between the island and the mainland. The water here is notably calm — sheltered by the narrow channel — and clear, with the characteristic blue-green of the Dalmatian Adriatic. The beaches are pebble and rock rather than sand, which is standard for the Dalmatian islands.
The closest beach to the old town is a five-minute walk along the waterfront promenade. Further along the coast road in either direction, smaller coves offer more privacy. The water temperature is good from June through September. Compared to the overcrowded beaches near Novalja and Zrće, the beaches around Pag Town are quiet even in peak season — this end of the island draws families and those who come for the architecture and cheese rather than the nightlife.
