Postup is a small village on the southern, sun-facing side of the Pelješac peninsula, surrounded by the vineyards that produce one of Croatia's most respected red wines. The Postup appellation — a rich, full-bodied wine made from the Plavac Mali grape — has been protected since 1961, and the steep, rocky slopes above the Adriatic create conditions that concentrate the flavour.
The village itself is tiny, but the setting is striking: terraced vineyards dropping toward the sea, with views across to the islands of Korčula and Mljet. Toward the nearby village of Mokalo lies the wreck of the Boka, a submerged Montenegrin steamship in shallow water that draws divers and snorkellers. The town of Orebić, with ferries to Korčula, is within easy reach along the coastal road.
