Pula has its own international airport (PUY), about 7 kilometres from the centre. Direct flights operate from UK, German, and other European cities in summer; outside the peak season, options thin considerably and you may need to connect through Zagreb or Split. Taxis from the airport to the centre take around 15 minutes.
By road, Pula sits at the end of the Istrian peninsula about 300 kilometres from Ljubljana and 250 kilometres from Trieste. The A9 motorway from the north runs down the western side of Istria; the drive from Venice is about 3 hours. Regular buses connect Pula with Rijeka (about 2 hours) and Zagreb (4–5 hours). There is no rail connection to the rest of Croatia — the line to the interior was abandoned — so bus or car is the way in from the north and east. In summer, ferry connections run to Venice and other Italian Adriatic ports.
