The old town is entirely pedestrianised and compact enough to walk end to end in ten minutes. Cars must be left in one of the car parks on the edge of the old town.
Bicycles are a good way to reach the Golden Cape forest park south of town, and rental shops are plentiful near the harbour. The park itself has walking tracks through the pine forest to the swimming coves.
Boats to Crveni Otok (Red Island) and other nearby islands depart regularly from the waterfront during the summer season. Tickets are sold at the harbour.
For day trips further afield — to Pula, the Lim Fjord, or the hill towns of interior Istria — local buses or a rental car are the practical options.
