La Puntalina occupies a series of terraces cut into the rock on the western shore of the old town, with tables perched above the sea and views stretching across the Adriatic. The setting is spectacular and the kitchen makes good use of it — the food is straightforwardly excellent, focused on the day's catch and Istrian ingredients.
Expect whole grilled fish, seafood pasta, and black risotto, all prepared simply and well. Prices are on the higher side for Rovinj, but not extravagant given the location. Reservations are essential in summer — the best tables go quickly and the restaurant fills every night. Come at sunset and the light on the water is something to remember.
