Střelecký Ostrov is a river island in the Vltava at the southern edge of the old town, connected to both banks by footbridges. The island is a pleasant public park — trees, benches, paths along the riverbank — and a favourite spot for an afternoon walk. The Budvar football stadium sits on the mainland nearby, but the island itself is peaceful.
The surrounding stretch of the Vltava is good for cycling; a riverside path runs north from here towards the city centre. Renting a bicycle and following the river for an hour in either direction gives a very different perspective on the town and the flat South Bohemian countryside around it.
