Things to Do

České Budějovice is a rewarding town for an afternoon or a full day. The main square is one of the largest in the Czech Republic, and the Black Tower next to it gives the best views in the city. The Budvar Brewery runs excellent tours — this is the original Budweiser, and the tap room pours unfiltered lager straight from the conditioning tanks. The Dominican Monastery is the oldest Gothic building in town, while the South Bohemian Museum fills a rainy afternoon. The river island of Střelecký Ostrov is a quiet green escape at the edge of the old town.
