Olomouc is small and the old town is best walked. The historic centre is compact — Horní náměstí to the cathedral is a 15-minute stroll — and traffic in the centre is restricted, so cars are mostly absent.
For trips out to the train station or the suburban districts, the tram and bus network is run by DPMO. Tickets are sold from machines at most stops and from the driver; a single ticket is cheap, day passes are good value. Bike hire is available from a handful of shops near the centre, and the surrounding Hanákovsko countryside has flat, signposted cycling routes including the Morava river path.
