Olomouc rewards slow walking. The historic centre is compact and most of the main sights are within easy reach of the two main squares — Horní náměstí and Dolní náměstí. The six Baroque fountains scattered around the old town are all worth seeking out individually, and the Holy Trinity Column on Horní náměstí is the centrepiece. Beyond the squares, there's a good archaeological museum, a fine arts museum, and a pleasant zoo on the edge of town.
