The green belt around Kuressaare Castle is one of the more pleasant places to spend an hour in the town. The moat still holds water and the path along its edge offers changing views of the castle's massive dolomite-block walls, particularly good in the long light of a summer evening. Lime trees line the paths, and in summer the park fills with locals who use it as an everyday amenity rather than a tourist destination.
There is a small beach on the south side of the castle park where the moat meets the bay, used by locals for swimming in warm weather. The park connects to the town's longer seafront promenade, which stretches west along the coast.
