Getting There

Getting to Saaremaa means crossing water. The most common route from Tallinn is by bus to Virtsu (about 2.5 hours), then the ferry across the Väinam strait to Kuivastu on Muhu Island, then across the causeway to Saaremaa and south to Kuressaare. The whole journey takes around four hours. Alternatively, Kuressaare Airport (IATA: URE) has connections to Tallinn with Nordica; the flight takes 30 minutes. Driving is the most flexible option, especially if you want to explore the island properly.
