Kloogaranna Beach

Three kilometres south of Laulasmaa, Kloogaranna offers a similar long stretch of pale sand and pine forest but with slightly more infrastructure — a railway station with direct trains from Tallinn, a campsite, a few summer cafés, and a beach volleyball area. It tends to be the busier of the two beaches simply because it is easier to reach without a car.

A short walk inland leads to a small memorial marking the site of the former Klooga concentration camp, where some 2,000 Jewish prisoners were murdered by the SS in September 1944 in one of the worst single atrocities on Estonian soil. The memorial is sobering and not signposted from the beach. Many visitors split the day: a morning swim, the walk to the memorial, and the train back to Tallinn.
