Narva Alexander Cathedral was built in the 1880s for the Lutheran workers of Kreenholm, and its scale makes sense only when you remember how enormous the factory community once was. The round, severe brick church stands south of the centre, closer in spirit to the industrial district than to the castle.
The building has had a difficult modern history, including wartime damage, Soviet neglect, and repeated restoration efforts. Today it is used for services and cultural events, including a large permanent projection installation on the vaults. Check opening times before walking out specially.
