The Estonian National Museum is one of the best museums in the Baltic states and worth a special trip from anywhere in Estonia. The permanent exhibition covers Estonian history, culture, and folklore from prehistoric times to the present, with particular depth on the Soviet period and the 1991 independence movement. The Finno-Ugric collection is one of the largest in the world, documenting the related peoples across northern Eurasia.
The building itself, opened in 2016, is striking — a long, low glass structure on the grounds of the former Soviet Raadi airfield, the runway axis preserved as the building's central spine. The museum is a 20-minute walk or a short bus ride from the town centre. Allow three to four hours for the full experience.
