St. Peter's Church is a strong piece of Tartu's nineteenth-century skyline: red brick, a high tower, and the sober confidence of a Lutheran parish church built for a growing university town. It stands away from the most obvious Old Town circuit, which makes it useful if you want to see more than the Town Hall Square and riverfront.
The appeal is architectural as much as devotional. Its proportions are plain but handsome, and the surrounding streets show a quieter residential Tartu that many quick visits miss.
