Gunpowder Cellar

The Gunpowder Cellar was dug into the side of Toomemagi in 1767 as part of Tartu's old defensive works. It stored gunpowder into the early 19th century and later served as a general storehouse before being adapted for public use.

The thick vaulted interior is the reason to look in. It is most worthwhile when combined with a walk over Toomemagi to the cathedral ruins, university buildings, and old bridges.
