A monumental Karelian log house in Nurmes, an hour's drive north of Lieksa around the head of the lake. Bomba is a 1978 reconstruction of an 1855 farmhouse from Suojärvi in Russian Karelia (the original was burned in the Continuation War). Two storeys, a massive wooden facade, more than twenty rooms.
The building now anchors a small Karelian heritage village, with restaurant serving karjalanpiirakka (rye-crust pastries with rice or potato), pieces of older buildings reassembled around the grounds, and a smoke sauna by the lake. The simplest taste of Karelian culture you will find in the region.
