Jatkankynttila Bridge crosses the Kemijoki River just east of central Rovaniemi, its tall pylons and lit upper structure forming one of the city's clearest modern silhouettes. The name refers to a traditional lumberjack candle, tying the bridge design to Lapland's forestry culture.
It is still a road bridge, but it works as a landmark because it frames the river and Ounasvaara beyond it. The best experience is usually from the riverbank or on an evening walk, when the lighting makes the form easier to read against the northern sky.
