The Le Tour cable car rises from the village of Le Tour, near the top of the Chamonix valley, to Charamillon at 1,850 metres. A chairlift continues to Les Autannes at 2,195 metres, opening broad views over the upper valley and toward the Swiss border.
In winter it is part of the Balme ski area. Outside the ski season it is useful for high-level walking when the lifts are operating, though routes near the border still require proper mountain conditions and equipment.
