The second-largest fine arts museum in France after the Louvre, housed in a beautifully converted 17th-century Benedictine abbey on Place des Terreaux in the Presqu'île. Collections span Egyptian antiquities, Italian primitives, Dutch and Flemish masters, and one of the best French 19th-century holdings outside Paris — Monet, Manet, Cézanne, Gauguin, Picasso. The quiet cloister garden is a lovely place to rest between galleries.
