Place Sathonay is a quiet, tree-shaded square at the foot of the slopes of Croix-Rousse. It is smaller and less formal than Place des Terreaux, with cafe terraces, petanque players, and a neighbourhood feel that makes a good pause between the old silk-workers' streets and the Presqu'ile.
Come through while walking the Montée de la Grande Cote or exploring the traboules around the lower Croix-Rousse slopes. The square is most useful as atmosphere, not as a monument to tick off.
