Marché des Chartrons

Sunday antiques and brocante market along the Chartrons waterfront

Every Sunday morning, the Quai des Chartrons fills with antiques dealers, second-hand booksellers, and bric-a-brac vendors. The market has a genuine character — more flea market than design fair — with a mix of furniture, glassware, paintings, ceramics, silverware, and outright junk. If you know what you're looking for and enjoy rummaging, you will find things here that would cost three times as much in Paris.

The market runs from roughly 8am to 2pm. The riverside setting — underneath the plane trees along the Garonne, with the Chartrons facades behind — is particularly pleasant in summer. Coffee from the neighbouring cafés, a circuit of the stalls, and a walk south along the waterfront makes for a good Sunday morning in Bordeaux.
