Chapelle Notre-Dame de Bon Secours

This small chapel from 1647 stands on the site of Lormes' original medieval castle, on a quiet street just below the town centre. Dedicated to Notre-Dame de Bon Secours — Our Lady of Good Help — it served for centuries as the main pilgrimage chapel for the cantons around Lormes, drawing processions from villages that no longer exist.

The building is modest and unrestored, which is part of its appeal: rough stone walls, a low barrel vault, and a stillness that the grander parish church across town doesn't quite manage. It's easy to miss, but worth the short detour.

A story
The site beneath the chapel was once the courtyard of the medieval castle that gave Lormes its first strategic importance. The castle is long gone, but the chapel built in its grounds in 1647 survived, becoming a place of pilgrimage for the surrounding farms and villages. Locals still come here on the Feast of the Assumption.
