Day Trips

Bourges is well placed for excursions across Berry and the southern fringe of the Loire Valley. Sancerre, with its hilltop village and famous vineyards, is a 50-minute drive. Noirlac Abbey, one of the best-preserved Cistercian monasteries in France, is half an hour south. The medieval town of Chartres and its rival cathedral can be reached in a long day by car.

The Sologne forests and lakes spread north, popular with walkers and birdwatchers. The Canal de Berry, partly disused but still walkable, is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
