Place Gordaine is a small triangular square in the heart of the medieval town, ringed by half-timbered houses. The architecture is the real attraction — some of the houses date from the 15th century, the carved corner posts are exuberant, and the upper floors lean over the cobblestones in the classic late-medieval way.
The square is the social centre of the old town in the evenings: a handful of restaurants and bars put tables out, and it stays busy late on summer nights. It is also one of the easiest places in Bourges to take a photograph that doesn't include a car.
