Getting Around

Hautvillers is tiny — the village can be walked end to end in 10 minutes. Everything worth seeing is within easy walking distance of the abbey: the church, the wrought-iron signs along the main street, the champagne producers' tasting rooms, and the paths out into the vineyards.

The vineyard walks are signposted from the village. The main marked circuit takes about an hour and a half at a relaxed pace; shorter variants exist if you only want the views from the first ridgeline. Sturdy footwear is advisable after rain as the vineyard paths can be muddy.

The village has no taxis and no local public transport — once you are here, you are on foot. If you came by bicycle from Épernay, the return journey is mostly downhill.
