Vineyard Walks

Hautvillers sits in the Montagne de Reims appellation, surrounded by Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. Marked walking paths lead from the village through the vines and up onto the hillside ridges, giving views across the Marne Valley to Epernay and beyond. The walk takes 45 minutes to two hours depending on how far you go.

In September and October, during harvest (la vendange), the vineyards are intensely alive — pickers work through the rows and the air smells of fresh grape juice. This is the best time to visit: the light on the Marne Valley is golden, the vines are full, and several small champagne houses open their doors for informal tastings. Outside harvest season the walks are still beautiful, but quieter.

A story
The Champagne hillsides around Hautvillers were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015, recognised as a "cultural landscape" representing centuries of human interaction with the terrain to produce a unique agricultural product. The village itself sits within the UNESCO zone, making the walk through the vineyards not merely scenic but historically significant.
