The old town is compact and easy to wander — narrow streets of pale ochre houses, occasional squares with a café or two, and Vauban's great seawall along the eastern edge. The covered market on Cours Masséna runs every morning except Monday and sells Provençal produce, cheese, olives, and flowers. The streets behind the market, around Rue de la Tourraque and Rue Aubernon, have the best concentration of small shops and restaurants.
