The Marché Forville is Cannes's best morning market and one of the finest covered markets on the Côte d'Azur. It operates every morning except Monday (when a flea market takes over) inside a covered hall near the Vieux Port, with vendors selling local produce, cheese, charcuterie, flowers, and fresh fish. This is where Cannes cooks shop.
The produce reflects the Provençal season: asparagus in spring, tomatoes and courgette flowers in summer, truffles in winter. There are excellent olives from the Var, goat cheeses from the backcountry, and socca (chickpea pancakes, a Nice speciality that has crossed the border). A round of the stalls and a coffee at one of the surrounding cafes is the best possible start to a morning in Cannes.
