Nice is perfectly placed for day trips along the Riviera. The train runs along the coast and connects easily to Monaco (25 minutes), Menton (35 minutes), Antibes (30 minutes), and Cannes (40 minutes). Inland, the perched villages of the arrière-pays — Eze, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Vence — are reachable by bus in under an hour. All are worth at least an afternoon.
