Nice is compact enough to walk, and the tram and bus network fills in the gaps cheaply. Getting along the coast to Monaco or Cannes is easy by train or bus.
Public Transportation on the Lignes d'Azur
The metropolitan area of Nice is served by a network of buses and a tramway that connects neighbourhoods in the northwest and northeast to the Place Massena near the waterfront. A single ticket is good for over an hour including transfers. Multi-trip and day passes are available and can be used by more than one traveller. The 98 and 99 bus lines connect the city to the airport. Most buses stop running around 8:30 p.m., though five selected lines and the Noctrambus tram continue until after midnight. Sunday service is limited.
Traveling Along the Riviera
Buses run from Nice along the coast and into the hills to Cannes, Monaco, Grasse, and beyond. Purchase a Ticket Azur at the Place Massena ticket agency for transfers outside the city limits.
Trains connect Nice to other coastal cities and the hinterland, with as many as 40 services each way along the coast. Trains are often the better option in high season when road congestion is common. Round trip fares are typically a few euros.
Taxis
Taxis can be difficult to hail on the street, but taxi stands are found on many corners in the city centre. Fares can be expensive and there are few other options late at night.
