Le Bistrot Gourmand is one of Nice's better options for proper Niçois cooking in a setting that is neither a tourist trap nor a casual street-food stall — a genuine neighbourhood bistro in the Libération quarter, a short walk from Place Masséna. The menu features daube niçoise (beef stew with olives and orange peel), stuffed courgette flowers, and the city's classic salade niçoise made correctly, with tuna, anchovies, hard-boiled eggs, and raw vegetables — no cooked green beans.
Portions are generous, the wine list is all Provençal, and the room is the size of a living room, which means reservations are advisable for dinner. Lunch is often more spontaneous and slightly cheaper.
