Gare du Sud

This elegant 1892 railway station once served the narrow-gauge line into the Alpine hinterland, and its beautifully restored facade is a minor architectural gem in the Libération quarter. After years of neglect, the station was reimagined and reopened as a covered food hall and cultural space. Inside, stalls serve everything from Niçois socca to Vietnamese pho, making it a great lunch stop while exploring the neighbourhood. The adjacent Libération market, one of Nice's best, runs every morning in the square outside. The combination of the restored Belle Époque architecture and the lively food scene makes this quarter feel genuinely local, well away from the tourist waterfront.
