St-Pons itself is small enough to explore entirely on foot — the cathedral, the museum, the market square, and the old town are all within a few minutes' walk of each other. The surrounding area, however, requires a car. The Gorges d'Héric, the Grotte de la Devèze, and the Monts de l'Espinouse are all accessible by narrow roads that have no regular public transport.
Cycling is possible on the quieter back roads, and the Haut-Languedoc park has mapped a number of mountain biking routes in the area. The terrain is hilly and can be demanding. The tourist office in the centre of town can provide maps and route information. For day trips to larger towns such as Béziers or Montpellier, the train from the station on the edge of town is the most convenient option.
