Église Saint-Jacques stands in one of Perpignan's most atmospheric old quarters, away from the city's more obvious shopping streets and palace route. The church is strongly associated with the Sanch procession, the hooded Good Friday procession that gives Perpignan one of its most distinctive annual rituals.
Outside festival time, it is still worth seeking out as part of a walk through the Saint-Jacques neighbourhood. The streets here feel older and rougher around the edges than the postcard centre, and the church helps explain the Catalan religious traditions that still mark the city.
