The historic centre is compact and best explored on foot — everything from the Basilique Saint-Sernin to the Couvent des Jacobins to the Canal du Midi is within a 20-minute walk of Place du Capitole.
Metro. Toulouse has two metro lines (A and B) that cross at Jean Jaurès. Line A runs east–west and is useful for reaching the Cité de l'Espace (Jolimont stop); Line B runs north–south. Single tickets and day passes are available from machines at every station.
Tram and bus. A tram line (T1) connects the airport to the city on its western extension. The bus network is extensive but slower; the metro is more useful for visitors.
Vélo Toulouse. The city's self-service bike-sharing scheme has around 250 stations across the city. Short-term subscriptions are available at stations or via the app. The Canal du Midi towpath and the Garonne riverbanks are excellent off-road cycling routes.
Taxis and ride-hailing. Taxis are plentiful and can be hailed or booked via app. Uber operates in Toulouse.
