Toulouse's historic centre is compact enough to cover on foot. The Basilique Saint-Sernin and the Couvent des Jacobins are the architectural highlights and both reward unhurried visits. The Musée des Augustins has excellent Romanesque sculpture. For a more modern afternoon, the Cité de l'Espace (space park) on the city's eastern edge celebrates Toulouse's aerospace heritage with real spacecraft, simulators, and an IMAX cinema. The Canal du Midi towpath — lined with plane trees — is one of the best urban walks in the south of France.
