Musée Saint-Raymond

Toulouse's archaeology museum, beside the Basilique Saint-Sernin

Occupying a 16th-century college building in the shadow of the Basilique Saint-Sernin, this archaeology museum holds the city's collections from prehistoric times through the Roman period and late antiquity. The Roman portrait gallery — dozens of marble busts and heads from a villa at Chiragan on the Garonne — is exceptional: one of the finest assemblages of imperial Roman portraiture in France. The medieval and early Christian collections on the upper floors are equally impressive. Free on the first Sunday of each month.
