Getting Around

The centre of Metz is small and easy to walk — the cathedral, Place Saint-Louis, the islands, and the railway station are all within 15 minutes of each other on foot. Mettis runs two trolleybus lines that connect the centre to the Centre Pompidou-Metz and the outer neighbourhoods; tickets cost around €1.60 and can be bought from machines at every stop.

For shorter hops, the city has an extensive vélocation bike-share network with stations across the centre. Taxis are easy to find at the station and at major squares. Drivers should note that the centre has a low-emissions zone (Crit'Air) and a paid-parking grid; underground car parks are the simplest option.
