By train. Metz is on the high-speed TGV line from Paris, about 1 hour 22 minutes from Gare de l'Est. There are direct TGV connections to Strasbourg (50 minutes), Luxembourg (40 minutes), and Frankfurt (3 hours). The Gare de Metz-Ville is right in the city centre, a 15-minute walk from the cathedral.
By air. Metz-Nancy-Lorraine Airport sits about 30 km south of the city, with mainly domestic and regional flights. For international connections most visitors use Luxembourg Airport (50 minutes by train) or Frankfurt-Hahn.
By car. The A4 motorway from Paris and the A31 from the north and south connect Metz to the rest of France. Parking in the historic centre is restricted; use one of the underground car parks around Place de la Comédie or Place Saint-Jacques.
