Arras's town hall and belfry dominate the Place des Héros. The Gothic belfry was begun in 1463, rose to 77 metres, and was rebuilt after the destruction of the First World War as part of the city's careful reconstruction.
The belfry is part of the UNESCO-listed Belfries of Belgium and France. Climb the tower for the best view over the two great squares and the rebuilt Flemish-Baroque facades below. The tourist office is in the town hall, and the underground Boves tunnels are entered nearby.
