The city centre is walkable, though the scale of the postwar rebuilding makes distances slightly larger than in a medieval town. Brest has a tram line (line A) running from the university in the west to the Porte de Gouesnou in the northeast, passing through the city centre. Buses cover the rest of the city.
The walk from the city centre to Recouvrance takes about 15 minutes across the Pont de Recouvrance. Océanopolis is 3 kilometres east of the centre and is most easily reached by bus (line 15 from the centre) or taxi.
Brest is a city where having a car is useful for exploring the Presqu'île de Crozon and the wider Finistère coast, which is some of the most dramatic coastline in France.
