Musée Jules Verne

Jules Verne was born in Nantes in 1828 in a house on the Île Feydeau (now demolished), and the city's small museum dedicated to him occupies a 19th-century villa overlooking the Loire estuary. The collection covers his life and work through first editions, illustrated manuscripts, personal objects, and models of the extraordinary machines from his novels — the Nautilus, the Columbiad cannon, the Albatross.

Verne spent his childhood in Nantes and the river, the sea, and the docks made an obvious impression on his imagination. The museum is modest in scale but well-curated, and the view from the villa garden across the estuary gives a sense of the maritime horizon that clearly captivated the young writer. It's worth combining with a visit to Les Machines de l'Île on the riverbank below.
