Festival de Cornouaille

Held every July, the Festival de Cornouaille is one of the largest Celtic music and culture festivals in Europe, drawing participants and performers from Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Galicia, and Asturias. For a week, Quimper fills with bagpipe bands, traditional dancers in Breton costume, and concerts ranging from folk sessions to large outdoor stages.

The festival celebrates the Breton language and the pan-Celtic identity that connects the far west of France with other Celtic nations across the Atlantic. It is not a tourism spectacle but a living cultural event — the dance competitions and music contests are taken seriously by participants. If you are in Brittany in July and have any interest in Celtic culture or just in watching a city genuinely enjoy itself, it is worth timing your visit around.
