Rennes is an excellent base for Brittany. Mont Saint-Michel is around 55 kilometres to the northeast and reachable in under an hour by car or by bus from the gare routière. The Breton coast — Saint-Malo, Dinard, Cancale — is similarly close, with trains to Saint-Malo running in under an hour. The Forêt de Brocéliande, home to Arthurian legend and some fine walking, is 30 kilometres west.
