The Triumphal Arch of Orange stands just north of the old centre, a massive Roman gateway whose reliefs still carry the swagger of imperial propaganda. Ships, shields, weapons, and battle scenes crowd the stone, making it more than a simple town landmark; it is one of the strongest surviving Roman monuments in Provence.
Visit it with the Roman Theatre, which shares Orange's UNESCO listing, and the shape of ancient Arausio becomes much easier to imagine. The arch is outdoors and quick to see, but it deserves more than a drive-by glance, especially for the carving on the upper panels.
