The Greiffenegg-Schlössle is a small Italianate villa on the lower slope of the Schlossberg, built in 1822 for an Austrian provincial governor. Its terrace and beer garden, set among chestnut trees, look directly across the rooftops of the old town to the Münster spire.
You come here for the view, not the food, although the kitchen turns out reliable Badisch standards and the beer is cold. The walk up takes ten minutes from the Schwabentor; alternatively the funicular drops you nearby. Sunset is the ideal time. Closed in bad weather and from late autumn to spring.
